Admissions Department

Lewis College of Business accepts applications from qualified persons committed to benefiting from and contributing to a challenging and rewarding college experience. Because the College accepts applications all year round, students can enter at the beginning of any semester. It is best, however, to apply at least one month in advance.

For admission consideration, potential students are required to return a completed application and application fee to the Office of Admissions. Students will then work closely with an Admissions Counselor, whose role it is to guide them through the admissions process.

Admission Requirements: First Time Students are required to submit the following to the Office of Admissions: a completed Lewis College of Business Admissions Application, a $20 application fee in the form of a cashiers check, money order, or cash (no personal checks), and an official high school transcript, secondary school report, or GED certificate.

To request appropriate application materials, please write or call:

Assessment Test
All entering students must demonstrate proficiency in three competency areas—reading, writing, and mathematics. Therefore, while the College does not require entering students to submit ACT or SAT scores, it does require all first time students to complete the College’s assessment test before registering for their first semester.

The assessment test measures student’s proficiency in the three competencies indicated above and will serve as a basis for determining whether or not developmental courses will be required during the students’ first year of enrollment (see Degree Requirements, pg. 37). Students may not re-take the assessment until one full term has passed. After one full term has passed, re-testing can be administered by appointment with the Institutional Research Office.

This assessment is administered by the Office of Institutional Research and is completed in approximately two hours.

Admission Requirements: Readmitted Students
Former students in good standing who have not enrolled for one year or more must submit an application for readmission along with $20 re-admit fee. Students re-admitted after an absence of less than two years are subject to the curriculum in effect at the time of their original admission. Students re-admitted after an absence of more than two years must follow the curriculum in effect when re-admitted.

A former Lewis student who was dismissed from the College for academic reasons and who desires to be re-admitted may apply for re-admission after a lapse of at least one semester. No re-admission will be allowed after a third academic dismissal.

A former Lewis student who was dismissed from the College for disciplinary reasons and who desires to be re-admitted must apply under the terms of his dismissal, in writing to the Admissions Committee at least four weeks prior to the start of the semester in which the student desires to re-enroll. No re-admission will be considered after a second disciplinary dismissal.

Former students who have earned college credits during their absence from Lewis and wish to apply such credits toward a Lewis degree or certificate program must submit an official transcript to the Admissions Office. Only courses from accredited institutions where a “C” or above was received will be considered for transfer.

Admission Requirements: Transfer Students

Submit a Lewis College of Business Admissions Application along with $20 application fee in the form of a cashier’s check, credit card, money order, or cash (no personal checks). Have an official copy of all transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions. Only grades of C or better from a regionally accredited institution will be reviewed for transfer consideration. Note: Grades are not transferable; only credit hours are transferable. Application of transferred credit hours toward Lewis graduation requirements (degree and certificate programs) will be limited to 50 percent of the total number of credit hours required for the certificate or degree. Transfer students must meet all requirements of regular admission.

Admission Requirements: Unclassified or Guest Students
Students who elect to take courses but who do not wish to pursue a degree may enroll as an unclassified student by following the admissions guidelines for first time students. An unclassified student may select specialized programs or enroll in short courses that will prepare her/him for a particular vocation or promotion and advancement in her/his occupation. Courses taken while an unclassified student will be applied toward a degree once official notice of degree selection is provided to the Student Records Office.

Guest students should complete Michigan Uniform Guest Application or a guest application from the institution in which the student is enrolled. The guest application should specify the courses to be taken at Lewis. Guest students are allowed to enroll in courses for which all prerequisites have been met. Lewis students have enrollment preference over guest students.

Admission Requirements: International Applicants
An international applicant must submit a completed application along with $600.00 nonrefundable international student fee, official English-translated transcripts, Affidavit of Support and a Visa. An I-20 form will be completed if requested once all the above have been provided.

Lewis makes an effort to maintain a diverse student population because of the benefits that accrue to all students and to the entire educational process. For more information on admission, contact the Office of Admissions at: 17370 Meyers Road, Detroit, Michigan 48235 (313) 862-6300 Ext. 239.
