Philosophy Statement
Lewis College of Business is a historically Black college, independently founded by a self reliant African American woman in the parlor of her own home and with the help of her own children. Through hard work, determination, integrity, self-reliance, strong leadership, cultural awareness, creative thinking and problem solving, and the willingness to continually evolve intellectually and in response to the changing environment, the founder made Lewis a valuable living reality. These values together provide the foundation upon which this great institution stands and constitute the critical characteristics we aim to cultivate in all members of our community.
About the Liberal Arts Department
The Liberal Arts Department aims to cultivate in students the skills necessary to transfer to the four year college or university of their choice. Given that effective research and communication skills are essential in persistence through college graduation, the Liberal Arts curriculum is designed to prepare students to do well in these areas.
Students are encouraged throughout their tenure at Lewis College of Business to explore life and career interests/options, as well as consider major that will guide them toward those interests. Liberal Arts advisors assist students in this process and in identifying and selecting the next stop on their academic journey.
