Library Department

Mission

The Richard R. Harris Learning Resource Center Library is an integral, student centered, instructional, and information resource designed to serve the needs of the college and the community. All resources are selected to support the college's academic and business oriented curriculum. Integral to the mission are the library goals, which are:


  • To provide library and reference media services; computer technology and online service; user education that fulfill the needs of clients.
  • To select and make available a collection of both print and non-print resources which support the curriculum and the needs of the college.
  • To support business orientation of the college curriculum.
  • To support the college's core curriculum courses, and assist students in the development of their reading, writing, and analytical skills.
  • To assist students in the development of research and technical skills necessary for the information age.
  • To assist students and graduates in their career exploration and continued professional development.
  • To provide an atmosphere for students to experience and access a variety of learning opportunities.
  • To develop a collection of African American business resources as our commitment to the community we serve and as one of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Harris Library Archives Portal

Collections

The Harris LRC Library Archives Collection is located on the campus of Lewis College of Business in Detroit, Michigan. As "Michigan's Only Historically Black College" Library System, we pride ourselves on providing students, faculty, staff, and the community we serve with access to scholarly resources and information. The archives consist of the following collections: Attorney Harris, Mommie T.V.,Graduates, and Rare Books. The Rare Records Collection is scheduled for processing by mid-summer 2004.


Also, the portal features links to other Historically Black Colleges and Universities archives, and other resources for librarians, researchers, students, and teachers.

The British Columbia Digital Library is a pathfinder filled with directories, guides, portals, and search engines to national and international Digital Libraries. Also, most of the websites listed in the BCDL can be accessed for free.

is brought to you by the Library of Congress. The portal provides links to archives around the world.

The National Archives & Records Administration website provides information to those seeking grants or other funding for an archives project.
